"Developing reading comprehension skills is essential for academic, professional life… enables students to develop intellectually, socially and emotionally (Pam Marshall, 2014).” Reading comprehension is incredibly complex and multifaceted (Joell Brummitt, 2014). The psycholinguist Goodman (1973) suggests that the primary goal of reading is comprehension. National Reading Panel (2000) found a variety of techniques and systematic strategies best facilitated reading comprehension. There are many methods of teaching reading comprehension like K-W-L method, DR – TA method, FORCE method, PLAN method, KSQ4R method, SQ3R method, Multipass method etc. In the PWP method, ‘P’ stands for pre-reading, ‘W’ for while-reading and the last ‘P’ for post-reading. Ur (1996) and Vaezi (2001) recommend this model for teaching reading. A time limit is given for every stage. By adopting this method the students can develop the following comprehension skills: summarising, sequencing, inferencing, predicting, problem solving and self-questioning. This method is effective because teaching of comprehension techniques like monitoring co-operative learning, question-answering question generating take place in the classroom.
