In the present scenario, there is an urgent need for new strategies of peace based on the common fundamental interest of mankind, rejecting the use of force, and aimed at creating a new world order. Recognizing the close interrelationship between culture and peace, and the extension of international interdependencies in reducing economic disparities, emphasis must be given to developing positive attitudes to peace in the minds of all men. The dangers inherent in the arms race require that education for disarmament be an integral part of peace education. Likewise, the connections between peace and other international objectives such as development and human rights need to be stressed. Peace education should lead not only to a greater awareness of problems but also to a sense of responsibility. This is an active involvement in efforts towards promoting equal rights, economic and social development, and mutual respect and understanding among nations. The power of informed public opinion, internationally, in influencing governments towards peace and disarmament should not be underestimated; therefore, greater attention in peace education needs to be given to identifying and overcoming the structural, conceptual and cultural obstacles to peace. As the GCPE(Global Campaign for Peace Education) puts “A culture of peace will be achieved when citizens of the world understand global problems, have the skill to resolve conflicts and struggle for justice nonviolently, live by international standards of the human dignity and equity, appreciate cultural diversity, respect the Earth and each other.” Humankind needs to take lesson from its past in order to build a new and better tomorrow. One lesson learned is that, to prevent our violence –ridden history repeating itself, the values of peace, nonviolence, compassion, tolerance, human rights and democracy will have to be inculcated in every group woman and man. Today’s world, its problems and challenges are becoming increasingly more interdependent and interconnected No time is more appropriate than now to build a culture of Peace. Key Words: Peace, Culture of Peace, Peace Education
