Contemporary Indian women writers in English firmly accentuate the freedom of thought, expression, marginalization and their individuality. They try to come to terms with the conflict between tradition and modernity. These writers mainly focus on the convolute fetter of human affinity in familial relationship. Manju Kapur came into limelight of literary world with her debut novel, ‘The Difficult daughter’ (1998), it fetches her Commonwealth Writer’s Prize in 1999, for the best first book. The aim of this paper is an endeavor to locus on frustration due to separation, nightmares and traumatic experience of two children Arjun and Roohi in Manju Kapur’s fifth novel ‘Custody’. In the conjugal disruption, the most affected person undeniably is children. The innocent children are the victim of broken marriage. This is an attempt to bring out how the problems encountered by the children in the novel reflected in their dreams and nightmares.
