This paper focuses on the title The Diasporic Element in Jhumpa Lahiri’s ‘Interpreter of Maladie’s. Jhumpa Lahiri is a post colonial Indian American writer. Her novel The Interpreter of Maladie is a collection of short stories deals with the question of identity that immigrant Indians face abroad. The diasporic characters face a sense of alienation of exile. These nine stories deal with characters those who are displaced from home. If we classify the characters we can find the characters are first generation and second generation Indian settlers in US. In almost all the stories there is a longing for the native land and the life led in India before their migration to US. Key Words: diasporic characters, psychological movement, nostalgia sense, geographical location, immigrants etc.
