The purpose of this work is to reveal the exact position of women and their restrictions in their family. Manjukapur states the struggles and sufferings of women in India. They try to overcome their hurdles by their peculiar character of tolerance and ahimsa. Every woman has the power of Mahatma Gandhi in them. They hide their originality for the family members and their welfare. Sometimes they show their real faces inevitably. In ManjuKapur’s works she shows the familial restrictions of the female characters. Women in her novels know their strength and limitations. Even though they possess multiple specialities, they are unknowingly restricted by the traditional norms. These rules may be their bonding but they treat them as sweet poison. They fight with the troubles happily and they never like to run away from the obstacles. They stand steadily at the end of their lives. Manju Kapur exposes the real and lively characters in her works like Kasturi, Virmati, Ida, Astha, Nina, Sakuntala and Swarnalata. Keywords: familial restrictions, real and lively characters, tolerance and ahimsa, traditional norms etc.
