Pain management is a global challenge, due to the high prevalence of chronic or acute pain for worldwide, large medical burden, and disabling effects. With the opioid crisis for pain management emerging in various federal regulatory, drug administration (FDA) health agencies and the joint commission have started to advise or mandate that traditional health systems and providers offer other treatment options for pain control. Traditional medicines stand as the potential choices to fulfill these calls. Traditional medicines are generally believed to be green and safe treatment choices for various conditions. Traditional medicines for pain management are defined as the sum total of the knowledge, practices based on the herbal literature and experiences indigenous explicable, in the prevention, improvement, or treatment of pain. All the internal and external herbal combination was used for pain management. Herbal literatures and practical evaluation experience, toward relieving pain, patients' participation, and improving self-efficacy are important for pain management. The aims of this review were to identify possible options of traditional health care for pain management and to determine the effectiveness of these strategies for pain relief/pain-related problems.
