Tamilnadu has a rich and living heritage in its classical art forms as well as in its folk tradition. In society, the Folk tradition with its infinite variety and range has unfortunately received much less attention than it deserves. An attempt is made to document and analyse the social and economical dynamics of folk dances in Tamil Nadu. This research paper seeks to present an outline of the richness of Tamil Nadu’s folk dances. This studies taking into account the various facets of folkdances- historical, sociological, anthropological, ritual, aesthetic and economical aspects in a compact format. Keywords: Kuravai, Koothu, Chakkai Attam, Kaniyan Attam, Aatta Karagam.
