The paper touches upon the importance of teaching writing in English in English as Second language contexts. It touches upon the areas that need to be concentrated upon by the class teachers based on a review literature in the area. Writing is complex activity that needs critical thinking skills among the learners. Since ‘writing cannot be done in vacuum’ the teachers needs to focus on the principles of process based approach to teaching writing.
