This study is a modest attempt to focus on the Teaching Methods and Techniques which are involved in the teaching process of ESP in Engineering classrooms. Innovative methods are to be introduced to teach ESP whereas various techniques are used to teach Literature and General English. The methods will be in scientific mould like Phonetics and Etymology. John Munby refers to English for Specific Purposes (ESP).The methods seek training for the students in using language skills-LSRW. Modern Technology of scientific education facilitates the use of language laboratory to train the students in Listening and Speaking while the Career Laboratory takes care of the skills of Reading and Writing. Without reading habits a student cannot surpass in learning a new language like English. This paper throws light on the four skills (LSRW) to be taught on scientific lines as in the case of Phonetics and Etymology. Study of literature brings refinement of human spirit along with the power of enhancing the quality of life. To sum up the various methods of teaching literature are seemingly more similar than dissimilar. While allowing no interchangeability, Dubin and Olshtain point out how techniques are not to pass for methods while masquerading as lambs in sheep’s clothing. Therefore the methods in scientific orientation in explorative breakthrough and techniques of humanistic thinking in all creativity are the two distinct streams of English teaching in mutual complementariness as in individual preferences.
