Bellow was different from other writers. He wrote novels which took efforts to establish a positive approach in life and humanity. His protagonists were common men and their struggles are self made. His novel The Adventures of Augie March is a good example for Bellow’s existentialist inclination of mind. He is the creator of his own fate and is happy in knowing it. Arun Joshi belongs to the generation of writers who present the problems of well educated and well travelled middle class Indians caught in the dilemma and ramifications of the twentieth century civilised world. His The Last Labyrinth treats the entire world as a great labyrinth and the only problem for an individual is to identify a proper passage. The passage is thick with confusions and hungers. In fact, the novel is a warning against the intellectual pride of an individual. This article tries to make a comparative study of these two novels in terms of existential concepts.ellow was different from other writers.
