In Tamil Nadu, 80% of the engineering students are from sub urban areas and they are from vernacular medium schools. Their proficiency in the English language is in its marginal level. Engineering students of all engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu are spending much beyond their economical capacity to acquire B.E. degree. It is a common practice for all engineering colleges with placement cells to secure a good job in and out of the state and nation. In reality 95% of students are not afford to spend for special training to acquire soft skills in other words life skills to ensure employment during and after the completion of their engineering courses. Naturally, they have to rely upon the respective colleges in which they can acquire employability skills. This paper is a modest attempt on acquiring employability skills along with the hard skills to survive in this competitive, global job market. This study focuses on the basic essential employability skills such as communication skills, team spirit, trouble shouting, self-vision, goal setting, passion for learning new things, accepting failures, crossing borders to achieve high and perseverance along with hard work.

Keywords: vernacular medium schools, placement cells. training special employability skills, competitive global job market.etc.
