Child marriage has been an inherent social evil present across numerous societies in the world. Laden with tradition and values of the societies who practice it, it is quite impossible to eradicate child marriage practices by its roots. Besides values and traditions, some other aspects like economic and environmental (social and cultural) also have significant bearing for continuation of the practice. Needless to say that due to spread of education and awareness among people the extent of the practice has been reduced a lot. The present article is based on a study conducted among the Nyishi tribes of Arunachal for the want of M. Phil. Research. The collected data were further enhanced with additional information collected for a research study sponsored by ICSSR. This article deals with the problems associated with the practice of child marriage in general and various issues related to Child Marriage practice among the Nyishi society in the state of Arunachal. The article establishes the fact that Child marriage practice among the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh has been associated with lots of social and cultural components which need to be addressed along with campaign against Child marriage to eradicate it by its root.
