The study seeks to analyse the dimensions of population in gadag district particularly in the five taluks of the district. The present paper highlights on population growth, density, sex ratio, literacy rate, occupation pattern and workforce of the gadag district with effect from 2001 and 2011 census. The population dimensions are explained with suitable causes and consequences which includes rural and urban sectors. The demographic dimensions are closely associated with physical, socio- economic, political and historical factors of the region. Hence an attempt has been made to know and evaluate the qualitative and quantitative terms of demographic characteristics of the study area. The paper consisted population growth equation given by Webb’s and Gibbs method, spearman rank order correlation coefficient method for using occupation pattern of the district. The paper examines the population dimensions which are influenced by migration, unemployment in rural areas and lack of urban facilities. The present study shows there is positive correlation between total population and occupation structure of the district.
