Academic scores have become the destiny charters for Indian students. Almost every adolescent student bears the heavy baggage of the expectations of parents, teachers and society. An environment that allows for the range of emotions that children experience will enhance self-acceptance and propel the maturity process forward. One of the major aims of any good educational programme is to help the learner to gain emotional maturity. The chief determinant of emotional maturity is the ability to bear tension. Hence, resilience has its share in the academic performance of children as the ability to bear tension and tide through adverse situations with poise lends to the academic achievement thereof. When challenging and unpleasant situations confront the adolescent, it is there that emotional maturity comes into play. It thus becomes crucial to monitor the role of resilience in the academic performance of adolescents. The purpose of this article is to discuss the impact of resilience on the academic achievement of students and to develop a tool to assess the resilience of students.
