Today translation has been a major shaping force in the development of world culture and no study of comparative literature can take place without regard to translation. It is commonly assumed that any bilingual individual is able to produce satisfactory or even high-quality document translations simply because he is a fluent speaker of a second language. Bilingual individuals are able to take their own thoughts and ideas and express them originally in two different languages, their native language and a second language. However, some persons will have a native command of two languages but prove inept at translating even simple sentences. As translation is a challenging activity it is much more than an art, because literary works contain specific ideals called the aesthetic and expressive ideals. The present paper is focussed on such kind of challenges that a translator has to face during translation, in the novellas and short-stories of Mahasweta Devi that consists the textual problems in translation from Bengali to English.
