Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan says that no child having special educational needs should be deprived of the right to education and that the child should be taught in an environment which is best suited to his or her learning needs. However, there is a wide disparity between imparting education to visually impaired students and to sighted students. The visually impaired students are not included in the welfare program implemented by the Government of Tamil Nadu. (http://www.tn.gov.in/schooleducation/schemes.htm). This article tries to highlight the difficulties faced by visually impaired students in their learning process due to the indifferent attitude of the Government towards their education and also the need for enrolling the visually impaired students in the Mid-Day-Meal Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government.
