English language teachers may encounter lot of practical teaching problems or issues related to classroom teaching practices. In order to analyze and solve these problems , teachers need to devise a specific course of action out of their professional practices. Action research can be a powerful way for English language teachers to investigate their own teaching practices and can be an effective tool for improving their professional action. Through the process of planning and carrying out action research , teachers can develop a deeper understanding of many issues in teaching - learning process as well as ensure quality in English Language Teaching Education. Action research is intended to resolve problems rather than simply be research for its own sake. Hence in the light of this , this paper attempts to provide insights on the nature of Action research and related theoretical concepts determining its success understood by the researcher along with a sample action research study undertaken as a means of professional development.
