Savaras are one of the most primitive tribes in India, inhabiting several states like Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh etc. In Andhra Pradesh, they inhabit the hilly terrain in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. Painting is a part of religious ceremonies among Savaras. A study of Savara painting in Sithampeta area of Andhra Pradesh has been carried out and this paper incorporates important aspects and findings of the study. The study was carried out based on the available literature, interviews with people of the region and personal observation.
