Women empowerment means all round development which includes their physical, social, economic and political. The issue of women empowerment is on the priority of almost all the democratic societies in their effort to establish a society based on justice and human rights. Political empowerment of women and at producing women leaders in the society is the utmost need of present world. Political empowerment means women should give proper representation in the political decision making bodies but in reality, women’s are under representation in the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Panchayat Raj institutions. In recent years there have been explicit moves to increase women’s political participation. The 73rd and 74th constitutional Amendments in Indian constitution have created space for women in political participation and decision making at the grass root level by providing that 1/3 of the seats in local bodies all over the country be reserved for them with this representation of women in rural local bodies has become an area to be explored largly.
