Online retailing has gained a lot of popularity in this era of technological advancement. Online retailers face a lot of challenges- Financial, administrative and technological; however these can be combated if they continue to win the confidence of their customers. Online purchases are common mostly among youth and have certain distinct advantages over physical shopping. The advantages and disadvantages of online shopping vis-à-vis physical shopping are beyond the scope of this paper. However as online purchases are made for almost all items, it has an increasing role to play even with respect to FMCG. Online shopping poses certain challenges along with immense opportunities to the consumer. This paper analyses the challenges and opportunities with respect to online shopping on the basis of a survey conducted in hi-tech city, software hub of Hyderabad and makes suggestions for enhancing the satisfaction of online shoppers ; as this will increase the profitability of retailers.
