Land use/land cover is an important tool for the various planning authorities with responsibilities for the management of territory at a regional level (Marcal et al., 2005). Using Land use/land cover tool allows for the identification of the major processes of change and, by inference, the characterization of land use dynamics. Same time, the knowledge of land use/land cover map is very important to understand the drought prone environment, utilization, conservation and management. Globally, land cover nowadays is altered predominantly by direct human use. Therefore land degradation is mainly due to population pressure, which leads to intense land use without proper management practices (Raju et al., 2006). These land use/land cover changes perturb the existing drought prone ecosystem order to examine ecology and developmental consequences of land use change over a space of time. In the present study an attempt is made to study Land use/ Land cover pattern and changes in Dharmavaram mandal of Anantapur district using Remote Sensing and GIS Technologies. Keywords: Land use/land cover, planning authorities, management of territory, drought prone environment etc.
