To improve the share in the world apparel market in global scenario, it is the need of the hour to improve the efficiency of the garment industry as well as the quality of the end product. Also the profit of garment industry is mainly governed by the productivity and quality. The manufacture of any garment involves sequence of operations. All operations need to be planned to carry out in minimum possible time to increase the productivity. The productivity of the garment industry is expressed as either machine efficiency or operative efficiency. The operative efficiency depends on various factors like, nature of work, time taken to complete a task, experience, fatique, etc., This paper deals with the methods of improving operative efficiency in manufacturing gent’s shirts. In this task, time taken in every step in manufacturing the garment is observed. In the line production, standard allowed minute (SAM) in manufacturing the garment is found. The operative efficiency in each step in garment line was calculated and finally steps to improve the operative efficiency were also discussed.manufacturing the garment is observed.
