Women are the easiest victims of climate change especially during natural disasters like floods, tsunami, earthquakes, etc. Likewise their livelihood is very much questionable as they do not have any other sources of income especially with low income groups and female headed families suffer the most during natural disaster. Whenever there is a disaster women are set to be vulnerable as they are traditional brought up with the patriarchy setup were they are fully controlled as they are not trained up with swimming or tree climbing during disasters. Men always go in search of food and water, women always stay back at home and looks after her family and children where she is forced to be vulnerable. Though women are educated, they are not taught with basic trainings on life saving skills like swimming, tree climbing etc. Likewise there are two sets of women we can find today as one set of women are still in the patriarchal subjudication and other set of women are bold enough to save themselves in the crisis of natural disasters. Despite their education, lack of basic life saving trainings, make them still more vulnerable than men during natural disasters because men are naturally trained to swim, climb trees, etc. The present study is an attempt in studying women vulnerability and climate change with a special reference to Chennai floods, South India Keywords: Vulnerability, Climate Change, Women, Floods, Disaster, Rescue.
