Empowerment of women has become one of the most important concerns of this era. In reality women empowerment is still an illusion. Though the main purpose for women empowerment is to enhance the quality of life for women, it also has its deep network in social, economic and political scenario. We observe in our day to day life how women become victimized by various social evils. Undoubtedly many famous personalities have experimented in this field and had shown the way for the empowerment of women and the development of the status of women. All were of the opinion that until and unless women, on the basis of education and knowledge do not find their proper place in social and economic fields, they could not achieve self- respect for themselves. Nor they could become self- dependent in their life. This paper deals with the perspectives of Swamy Vivekananda, Mahathma Gandhiji, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Kiran Bedi, Arundhadhi Roy and Shri Narendra Modi on Women Empowerment. Key-words: Women Empowerment, illusion, development, self-dependent and self-respect.
