Arun Joshi has focused not on social or political problems but on the subterranean layers of man’s innermost. He was one of the most significant contemporary Indian novelists in English. Joshi’s novels thus re-enact the predicaments and searches of the modern man, declining the money-oriented civilization which brings out and engrosses his worst natures and cuts him off from the sustenance and harmony provided by his traditional ethical and divine founds. Westernization plays an important role in post- independence period. Joshi has used that east-west encounter and alienation in his novels. The heroes’ of Joshi has faced many west encounters and feel as exile in their own society. Finally they has found that their search for self-identity which is prevailed in themselves.
