In the Indian patriarchal society the voice of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni takes the readers to that challenging world of her women protagonists who are suppressed and shattered just because they are women. The search and the submission, the sacrifice and the subjugation haunt her writings and there is an affirmative feeling somewhere that maybe some change with a better prospect will definitely come up. The agony and the anguish of such helpless and hapless women have always imbibed her and with great care and credibility has she tried to forecast the dark clouds that hover over them. In the eleven stories of Arranged Marriage the problems and the possibilities, the pain and the passion, the peevishness and the power – have all been touched by her with meticulous deftness and sensibility. From the traditional archetypal Indian woman to the modern Americanized liberal personalities, Divakaruni pulls the stings together on the basis of the prejudiced social un acceptance and devastating emotional failure.n the Indian patriarchal society the voice of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni takes the readers to that challenging world of her women protagonists who are suppressed and shattered just because they are women.
