The teacher is no longer an instructor, driller, or collector. She is a leader in the discussion, a senior person who suggests ideas and encourages participation. The psychological distance between the teacher and the taught too is to be reduced to ensure a liberal participation of the students.The teacher works along with the students. As said earlier she just demonstrates a model and gives then to task to work out. She then steps quietly into groups to facilitate cooperative learning. She guides most of the students’ activities. Additionally, she serves as an assessor of the students’ oral and written work. She encourages students to participate. As a participant observer, she works directly with the students’ pairs/groups. As a resource person, she frequently intervenes and adds relevant points while communicating with the students. She provides direct instruction in the social and academic skills that are necessary for working cooperatively in pairs/groups.
