In India, particularly in a patriarchal male-dominated society usually man exercises all power and it is under his guidance and directions a woman is expected to act and follow. But today’s modern women as described by Shobha De in her novels, are well aware of the fact that it’s a man’s world and he is more powerful but they also know that this powerful creature man has also a weakness and that is woman. Therefore, for their survival and making herself economically powerful, women have learnt the art of using their beauty as their weapon. From ancient time women are considered as inferior and since they are oppressed from birth. The present research describes the protagonists of Shobha De who learn the weakness of men to redeem to their own advantage and it also depicts the attitude and behavior of women different according to the society she belongs to. By highlighting De's Starry Nights (1991) this paper presents a very clear picture as how for every action and reaction of a man there is an equal and opposite reaction of a woman too. Keywords: male-dominated society, modern women, protagonists, beauty as the weapon etc.
