Achebe sustains the splendid and distinctive ability to examine the elements of power, politics, discrimination, culture conflict, and the effects of colonization in Africa. His novels portray life within a particular historical background and convey a sense of growing disgust and unrest in the Nigerian society. A Man of the People is more on the politics and culture conflict of West African communities between the old and new generations. It is quite evident that the African culture continued its struggles for existence in the hearts and minds of the new generation. Chief Nanga is representative of the typical political man characterized by a number of selfish attributes, and his main purpose is to propagate himself by trying to get people to succumb to his own ideas and interests. So the present paper intends to bring out perturbing description of politics, corruption, slavery, racism, and culture conflict in Achebe‟s A Man of the People.
