The paper The Novelist, Norman Mailer, as a Journalist focuses on the distinctiveness of journalist in order to elucidate that Norman Mailer, the novelist, has stepped into the journalist’s shoes in his novel, The Executioner’s Song, which depicts the factual events adjoining the execution of Gary Gilmore who was an intelligent man with artistic talents, little common sense, and a sense of pride and was executed by the state of Utah for murdering two innocent men. Through his journalistic novel, Mailer has helped the readers to understand the American in 1970s and also their views and reactions on the capital punishment.
