The paper The Novelist, Norman Mailer, as a Historian focuses on the aspects of historian in order to illuminate that Norman Mailer, the novelist, has stepped into the historian’s shoes in his novels such as The Executioner’s Song which depicts the actual events surrounding the execution of Gary Gilmore by the state of Utah for murder and The Armies of the Night which is a report on the protest to Vietnam War and the descriptive reporting of history that pictures what really happened in the points leading up to and through the course of the event. Through these novels, the reader can get a chronological record of significant events which happened in the American society. The historic attribute of the novelist, Norman Mailer, will be brought to light by this study. Key Words: novelist, historian, critic, journalist etc.
