Feminism in India seeks for gender equality which is transparent in the writings of different Indian women writers. Indian women writers fought for the cultural, educational, health and other rights in the Indian patriarchal society. Indian women writing in English originated in the late 19th Century. It is an important milestone for the women in India. The access of English education was one of the reasons for the modern thinking of Indian Women. In the early India men thrust strict rules on the Indian women and they also prohibited equal rights with men. Her position in the family was a servile creature, a toy and an object of lust and pleasure. The arrival of the British paved way for the emancipation of women in India.
