Teaching poetry is an essential aspect in any level of learning process i.e. primary higher secondary and higher level students. In this paper, I would like to share what are the essential steps in teaching of poetry. I discuss about innovative octave (8) steps such as 1.Motivation 2. Presentation 3. Model loud reading by the teacher 4. Loud reading by the pupils 5. Silent reading by the pupils 6. Comprehension questions 7. Review/Application questions 8. Follow/Assignment. The primary aim of teaching of poetry is to make the students drive pleasure and appreciation of the beauty of thoughts, feelings language and expression of poem. Thus every ESL teacher should know the teaching method (direct method means English to English) steps strategies techniques and tactics. Those who get mastery level of teaching of poetry, those ESL teacher only can present the lesson in effective and efficient manner with teaching learning process in the class room instruction.
