Vocabulary learning is an indispensable part of any language learning process. The size of vocabulary a student acquires predicts his academic and professional success. Many Students feel that vocabulary learning is a painful compulsion. One of the major hindrances for effective speaking is scanty knowledge of words. If a sound scientific or technical experience is associated and complemented by sound vocabulary, the students benefit abundantly from the combination. There are no hard and fast rules of learning vocabulary and no one method is adequate to learn vocabulary. It is a convergence of approaches and methods that help students learn vocabulary. Learning language and enhancing vocabulary and usage skills is a lifelong activity. This paper discusses the problems of vocabulary learning suggesting some solutions basing on the classroom observations . Keywords: sound vocabulary, contextual aptness, conceptual clarity, contextual and definitional information, linguistic lacuna etc.
