Globalization has simply left no other option open, but to be at home in English, come what may. If we consider the world to be a global village, the common link is none other than English. English has been described as a gateway to the world’s culture. It is regarded “as a pipeline for the stream of knowledge in all branches of learning.” Far from being the language of an Englishman, it is now spoken by nearly half of the world population. English, now-a-days, is more a means of communication for those who are other than foreign. In the case of India, the dominance of English language, as a matter of chance in the pre-independence times and of choice in the post independence years, has always been urgently felt.
