In technical universities, where the students are majoring in the engineering disciplines, the researcher is particularly interested in finding out how the budding engineers, the engineering students, can be shaped as technical communicators. In India English is the second and official language. It is also considered to be an easy language to work with and to learn science and technology at higher levels. It is taught as a compulsory subject in most of the states and in English (L2) medium schools; however the majority of students with rural and urban backgrounds is not able to communicate properly in English and finds it to be a very difficult subject. On the other hand, writing is generally a considerable component of an engineer’s work and the amount of writing they do in the workplace is huge.
