Women are generally been considered as silent figures, submissive to the patriarchal powers that govern their society. The role of women in family, in society and in politics is incomparable. The majority of novels written by women writers depict the psychological issues and the replaced and oppressed lives of women. Isabel Allende is a controversial and outspoken writer from Latin America who depicts woman in her novels as a powerful tool who has the power to change course of history. The power of silence lies on observing the depth of silence. Similarly the power of women is established not by their standard of possession but by their ability in governing things. The House of Spirits is a story of three women who want to live primarily as a human beings and then identified as woman. Allende often focuses on the experiences of women. Allende gives importance for those women who care for others and support their surroundings more than their personal lives, even while struggling with poverty and abuse.
