This article is a study of representation of women and their struggles in Indian English novels. It is generally assumed that woman as a character in a narrative has been presented only by women novelists and until then, especially in India, the plight of women was generally ignored. Woman characters were presented as key to the Indian narrative by eminent male writers in their novels. This article attempts to present the facts related to representation of woman characters by the much acclaimed Indian novelists. This exploration of women and their characterization appears not only in Indian English novels but also in the regional novels. The suffering and subjugation of women along with the ethico-moral and religious circumstances that lead to their exploitation was presented through powerful characters by writers like Sarath Chandra, Rabindra Nath Tagore, R.
