Ruskin Bond is a household name in Indian writing in English and his works are widely read by both professionals and young readers. His simplistic style of writing offers light, leisurely reading, and while at same time when we read closely offers several serious themes involving realistic happening in human life. Being an Anglo Indian author, his works mostly covers the life of people around Himalaian hill region. This paper deals with the story of “The Funeral” by Ruskin Bond from his Rusty, The Boy From the Hills which deals with a story of small boy who lost his father at the age of nine. The story reveals the maturity of the protogonist to face that difficult situation. This paper tries to examine critically the protogonist’s quest for identity, in which he accepts life as it is with lot of positive hopes.
