In the present world of technology and science, everyone’s success is based on his demonstration of communication skills especially in English. As English has become the universal language, it is mandatory for the graduates from Engineering colleges to speak in English to expose their talents and grab the opportunity in getting jobs. National Association of Software and Services Company says that only 25% of technical graduates in India are suitable for the employment because of the ability to speak or write well in English. Considering the facts, many educationists, industrialists and employers from their experience suggests the urgent need of improving the technical students’ communication skills. Their statements and suggestions imply that teaching of English both at schools and colleges should be revamped and focused on Outcome-based, Communicative learning and Students centered methods rather than Content-based traditional teaching. Though there have been a lot of changes and developments that take place in the field of industries, technology and science there has never been any changes in teaching English which follows the same Traditional and Teachers-centre approach. Since the teaching of every subject is based on Curriculum, it is mandatory for the Educational institution and Universities to have new Curriculum for teaching English which should make the students speak the language to a comprehensible level to explain their thoughts. This paper aims to highlight the importance introducing Outcome-based and Students Centred English Language Teaching both at school and college level to make the Graduates more employable and life-long learners.
