Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on belief that one’s own race is superior. Racism is a part of human nature which played a vital role during the early periods of our society. As long as human beings have been around, the people are hated, feared, treated poorly in the name of nation, or skin colour. African American slavery and holocaust is a classic example of an institutionalized racism which leads to death. John L Dawson, a member of congress, after the civil war, insisted that “racial prejudice was implanted by providence for wise purposes”. Slavery started in the ground of racism. After the civil war in America in 1860, the slaves were turned free, but throughout the American history, they have been discriminated against and subjected to racist attitudes. Africans went under severe third grade treatment in white countries, especially in America because of their race. African American literature emerged during the slavery era to the works of such late eighteenth century writers. This literature exists within the larger realm of post colonial literature. Main theme of African American literature is culture, racism, class, religion, slavery, equality, and a gender identity. Racial discrimination is based on colour within African American community circle, familial problems etc., Harriet Ann Jacobs’ Incidents in the life of slave girl as racists based novel and also as a slave narrative explains the struggle of slavery on the basis of racisms. It also traces Harriet Ann Jacobs’s autobiographical events.acism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on belief that one’s own race is superior.
