There are a few striking similarities between Malgudi and Ayemenem. It portrays the customs and beliefs of the people and certain norms and ethical codes. The range of linguistic inventiveness made by Arundhati Roy is very wide. Women were taught right from childhood that marriage was a life-time bond which tied them down to one man, alive or dead.
