While tracing the German Literature, we can clearly understand that Johann Wolfgang von Goethe appears as the most important and incomparable representative of the German romantic movement and Weimar Classicism during the period 1788–1832. In general eco-criticism exhibits how nature is reflected in literature. Eco-criticism is not only the study of the relationship between literature and the physical environment, but also an analysis of how nature is „culturally constructed‟ and highlights on collective ethical responsibility. With an overview of German eco- criticism and Literature, this paper, “An Eco-critical view on the poem The Muses Son by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe” tries to emphasis the ecologically focused criticism of a greatest German literary figure of the modern era. “If we can‟t know everything, if we can‟t control the effects of our actions, if even the smallest human interference can cause massive natural destruction, then the only way to keep something important is to preserve it” (Campbell 131).
