ince time immemorial, women characters were being treated and presented as subjugated beings. Amidst this age - old practices of subjugation and allotment of confined spaces, women empowered themselves as liberated beings and affixed their indelible mark in every spheres of life. Shakespeare proclaimed, “Frailty thy name is women". Women in literature had changed this view to the core by transforming and expanding their horizon widely. As an initiative, women raised their voices against the odds in their progressive path. They not only initiated their revolt for identity, but also strived hard till they achieve it. Ultimately, they succeeded in their virtuous mission. They gained autonomy, self- reliance, and reverence. This aspect has been skillfully presented by Chinua Achebe in his novel Anthills of the Savannah.
