Theme of Love and War holds very pivotal place in the fictional narratives of Ernest Hemmingway. During his contemporary times, the whole world was in turmoil as the violence was overwhelming the psychic phenomenon of social and political arena of the society. Search for mental, political, moral and psychic peaceful equilibrium was the main focus of the people of all sections of the society. Therefore, writers like Ernest Hemmingway came to the forefront and made the people realize of their contribution to the social and moral world which was in quest for peace and spiritual balance. A Farewell to Arms is a love tragedy that narrates the physical, moral and economic sufferings of innocent people who got entangled in love affairs. They got trapped in their personal affairs so much that their official duties take the back seat and their responsibility to each other became a priority. A stage comes when their love at first sight turns to permanent spiritual love and personal happiness loses its meaning. Characters, such as Henry, a first rate dedicated soldier and Catherine, a duty bound nurse reach a stage of spiritual pedestal from where return is impossible.
