Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a Nigerian female author, speaks of the atrocities inflicted upon the African Igbo women during the two military coups happened in Nigeria within six years after its formal independence. Her women—Kambili, Olanna, Aunty Uju, Kainene and Ifemelu as the witnesses to carnage at the high of war discover love and life from the dangerous and heathen things. They face numerous challenges to establish their place in the patriarchal African society. The present attempt captures impact and immediacy of the Nigeria-Biafra war through the lives of women characters fictionalized in the novels—Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah. It also reveals the horrors of war that have brought upon the women untold grief, stripped them of their comfort and security, changed them and left them scarred for life.
