Psychoanalysis is a study of the behavioral pattern of all individuals and analysis particularly the behavioral pattern of mankind who deviate themselves from a normal way of living. The deviation from normal behavioral pattern is termed as neurosis. Some Indian novelists being delighted towards the psychological realities of life, had focused towards feminine sensibility, self-analysis, self-realization, introspection of mental process which has been interwoven with a sense of human touch and psychological depth to their observation. Traditionally, right from the ancient time, India is a male dominated society and the patriarchy has been framed in a way that women are both socially and economically subservient to the male. Shashi Deshpande’s novels revolve around the woman protagonist’s struggle to interrogate themselves in a patriarchal society. In most of her works, Deshpande focus on the incompatibility between husband-and-wife relationship aggravated by loneliness, lack of communication, isolation, the conflicts and discord which tangles the marital harmony.
