It is not surprising to see a woman writer taking sides with her women protagonists. But when a male writer takes sides with his women protagonists, it is not only surprising but also appreciable. R.K. Narayan is the male writer taken up for discussion in this paper which portrays the different women characters in his novels The Dark Room, The English Teacher and The Guide. In these three novels, Narayan has portrayed the women protagonists in such a way that after reading these novels, one start doubting if Narayan is a feminist. But he is not. He just depicts the exploitation of women in the present society and portrays a gallery of women with their own strengths and weaknesses
