The downtrodden, the ex-untouchable or the present Dalits fights for the name, space and dignity in Indian society. Indian Dalits get inspired by the humanism and revolutionary thoughts of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar who offers the fundamental rights to Dalits through ‘Indian Constitution’. The struggle for dignity is an eternal and universal phenomenon. The ‘new self-respect’ produced among Dalits tries to throw away the age-old humiliation based on untouchability, caste, and theory of pollution and purity. The sufferings of Mala and Madiga communities produce an awakening to fight against the socio-cultural injustice. In this context the attempt is made to project the struggle of Dalits from deprival to dignity represented in G. Kalyana Rao’s Untouchable Spring.
Key-words: dalit, dignity, deprival, Kalyana Rao, Untouchable Spring, humanism etc.
