Nature and woman are regarded as prominent aspects that can be closely associated to each other since these two entities are prone to subordination and destruction. The dominance of male- centred society has suppressed women and the brutal attitude of humans towards nature has ultimately contaminated the environment. Womanhood is an idea or concept defined by society and culture. As it is a biological fact, it has created various implications for women all over the world. This paper attempts to analyse the position of woman and nature as subverted selves in the poem Trying to Talk with a Man written by Adrienne Rich. She also tries to draw a parallel between the subjugation of women and the exploitation of nature.
